  • The Science beyond Textile Digital Printing

Several factors contribute to the quality of your digitally printed fabric. Primarily the printer, fiber type of your substrate, colors, pre-treatment and finishing. Each of these factors contributes to the end product you would like to have. Learn from the industry the latest innovations in Textile Digital printing

Dr Nahla Abdel Mohsen Textiles EgyptChoosing the Right Substrate for your Digitally Printed Fabric, Dr Nahla Abdel Mohsen, Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University

With many fabrics to choose from in digital printing, it is essential to select the right fabric to get successful results. Learn in this lecture what substrates are used in different sectors with special focus on polyester which is generally used in sublimation printing.

Why choose Dye Sublimation for Printing Fabrics ? Anas Mourad, Mutoh Sublimation Lecturer

Sublimation printing is one of the most efficient and commonly used methods for printing on fabrics and textiles by printing on special transfer paper then transfering the design onto various textiles using heat and pressure.

Sublimation printing proved its capabilities as it’s  a low cost printing method that produce durable , washable designs on various textiles and fabrics. Sublimation printing excels in all over prints giving textiles vivid and vibrant look suitable for various applications such apparels, home decor ,soft sinage and many more.

HP is the number one large format printer manufacturer in the world and has always been developing the latest printing and inks technology to reach all different printing applications, especially textiles.

In 2009 latex inks were introduced to have a high quality and wide color gamut, characterized by the anti-scratch and water proof technology. These environmentally friendly inks have the strongest characteristics for printing on different types of fabrics, if not all kinds of fabrics, and for use in various industries from decoration, furniture and even advertising.

Cost Effective Pre-treatment for Digital Textile Printing- Case Study: Terry Fabric, Dr Hany Kafay, Textile Research Division, National Research Center , Cairo, Egypt And Yara Adel , Senior Designer at Atum Egypt for Textiles & Apparel
Digital printing of terry towels is a challenge process due to their special properties for: 1) The Printed side, which mostly sheared/velour type with high density and short pile. 2) The backside, with longer loop pile for better drying results. Therefore, fabric should be well pre-treated for high quality printed products with bright colors which consumes a lot of chemicals, water, energy and time. Here we achieved a cost effective technique for pre-treatment of terry products with more than 70% saving of chemicals, water, energy and time as well with fine high quality, good penetration and stable color printed fabrics as compared to the traditional pre-treatment method.
Meeting Today’s Creativity with Tomorrow’s Technology in Textile Digital Printing, Engineer Mostafa Kamal , Kemet Corporation- Roland Digital Group

Digital dye-sublimation transfer is increasingly used by high-end fashion brands for short-run and limited edition production. If you are currently using analogue methods to produce fabric for fashion and other textile applications, Roland DG’s digital textile print technology offers the significant benefits of flexibility, cost and time efficiency.

  • The Design Workflow and “Print-on-Demand” Production, Debbie McKeegan

debbie mckeegan itex Egypt textile printingAs an industry we consume more textiles, and create more products than ever before, and looking forward, future growth is predicted as global affluence increases.

However, whilst volumes grow so do the individual SKU’s of the products we manufacture.

Our industry is now driven by Customisation and Personalisation. Manufacturing more products, but in less volume and with incredible speed.

To facilitate “print on demand” production, both the Design and Manufacturing workflow must adapt utilizing automation wherever possible from creation through to production.

Let’s explore “Design on Demand”, alongside “Print on Demand” and how the supply chain has evolved to embrace customized production at any volume.

  • Textile Digital Printing & Fashion

From prints and colors we choose to wear, to indeed the size and shape that best suits us. Fashion adds to these elements style. Digital printing offers new dimensions for designers to reach new limits and to get more success in their markets. Learn in this lecture about success stories for digital printing in fashion.

A graduate from NRC Incubator to an owner of Azha, Hanan developed a brand known of her own where she is focusing on special designs in fashion. See in this presentation her creations in digital printing.

T-shirt Factory Started the DTG Journey in 2008 with one machine imported from Sydney. The idea was to make customizing t-shirts accessible to everyone. So accessible you can print your t-shirt on the spot and watch your design coming to life in-front of your eyes. Although the idea seemed very exciting and gives a very rich experience to the customer, it was a bit hard to convince the Egyptian market that this is a reliable form of printing and people were skeptical to it’s results. The price was also a bit higher than what the market expected. However, people realized the advantages digital printing offer as opposed to its market rivals silkscreen and rotary printing. Digital printing had two main advantages. One that it required no minimum quantity and second being that it produced excellent quality of printing in terms of print resolution. Soon after that it’s was very easy to sell the concept of digital printing and we started branching out deeper into the Egyptian market. In 2017 we ventured into digital printing on fabrics and looking forward to spreading the idea and making it prevail as far as we did with T-shirts.

Bahira Gabr ITEX cairo textilesSustainability is defined as meeting the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  The three principals of sustainability are social, environmental and economic.  These can be achieved throughout the fashion supply chain.  Starting from choosing the fiber either natural or man-made, shifting to slow fashion with higher quality, up till reusing or disposing the sewn piece. Textile Printing, either conventional or digital can produce sustainable clothing items; through the use of local traditional motifs, making small businesses to work and minimizing water consumption.
